I believe in Christ like I believe in the sun,
not just because I see it,
but because by it I can see everything elseC.S. Lewis

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples,
and I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.-Psalm 108

St. Patrick’s Breastplate

crossx.jpg

I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this day to me for ever
By power of faith, Christ’s Incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan river;
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spiced tomb;
His riding up the heavenly way;
His coming at the day of doom;

I bind unto myself today.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One, and One in Three.
Of Whom all nature hath creation:
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord

Someone Greater to Thank

sedona-plus-232xx.jpg

The countless hints of kindness that surround us in moments of beauty, glimpses of compassion, and felt provision are rumors that tell us we are not alone; we are not orphans left alone. A grateful soul is opened to wonder as it follows the sunbeam up to the sun. It is possible, with practice, to see only the beam of light and not the source that offers it. But a thankful heart, reminds us that there is, in all things, Someone greater to thank.

I meditate on all your works
 and consider what your hands have done.

I will enter into your presence with thanksgiving,
   and Your courts with praise!

I will Give thanks to You; and bless Your name!   For the LORD is good;
   His steadfast love endures forever,
   and  His faithfulness to all generations.

Out of the Depths

easter-sunday-182x.jpg

 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!
 O Lord, hear my voice!
 Let your ears be attentive
   to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities,
   O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
   that you may be feared.

 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
   and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
   more than watchmen for the morning,
   more than watchmen for the morning.

Early in the Morning

nc4xx.jpg

It is good to give thanks to you, Lord, to declare your steadfast love in the early morning.  For you, Lord, have made m glad by your work; at the work of your hands I sing for joy.  -adapted from Psalm 92:1-4

O God, early in the morning, I cry to You.  Help me to pray and to concentrate my thoughts on You; I cannot do this alone. In me there is darkness, but with You there is light; I am lonely, but You never leave me; I am feeble in heart, but with You there is help;

I am restless, but with You there is peace.  In me there is bitterness, but with You there is patience; I do not understand Your ways, But You know the way for me.

O Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for the peace of the night; I praise and thank You for this new day; I praise and thank You for all Your goodness and faithfulness throughout my life. -Dietrich Bonhoeffer

His Light Shining Upon Us

  The LORD is God, and He has made His light shine upon us

You are my God, and I will give you thanks;

You are my God, and I will exalt you.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; His love endures forever.-Psalm 118 27-29

Jesus, your light is shining within us, let not my doubts and my darkness speak to me; Jesus, your light is shining within us, let my heart always welcome your love.-Brother Roger

Gather my broken fragments to a whole…Let mine be a merry, all-receiving heart, but make it a whole, with light in every part.-George MacDonald

The Reckless Raging Fury

kaffrene-senegal-day-5-078bw.jpg

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy I cannot find in my own and he keeps his fire burning to melt this heart of stone keeps me aching with a yearning keeps me glad to have been caught in the reckless raging fury that they call the love of God Rich Mullins

I think one of the hardest things in the Christian life is that we are very arrogant people.  And I think it’s very hard to allow God to break us…whom the Lord loves He also chastens, and…if we’ll never be broken, we’ll never be saved.  God doesn’t break us because He hates us or because He’s angry at us, but we have to be broken just like you have to break a horse…I know a lot of people have said, “well, why do you say the ‘reckless raging fury that they call the love of God’?” and all I can answer is, if you’ve ever known the love of God, you know its nothing but reckless and it’s nothing but raging.  Being loved by God is one of the most painful things in the world, it is also the only thing that can bring us salvation.Rich Mullins

Hope

cyprus-bosnia-2005-327x.jpg

The word which God has written on the brow of ever man, is Hope.-Victor Hugo

One of the strongest incentives to hope is the belief that God is actively involved in our lives.  “In Him we live and breathe and have our being” (Acts 17:28).  “See I have engaraved you in the palm of my hands” (Isaiah 49:16)

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek His face always” (Psalm 105:4)

Lord, grant us your help to seek Your face that we may grow in faith, hope, and love.  Amen

A Person’s Measure

img_9282x.jpg

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
       your love, O LORD, endures forever—
       do not abandon the works of your hands.
-Psalm 138:8

If we are worth anything,
   it is not because we have more money
      or more talent,
   or more human qualities.
Insofar as we are worth anything,
it is because we are grafted on to Christ’s life,
   his cross and resurrection.
That is a person’s measure.
Archbishop Oscar Romero

Lord God, you who revealed yourself in Christ Jesus, your Son, let me turn from my preoccupation with things to see the vision of your Son.

The Art of Being Thoughtful

nolsandethan.jpg

If you can learn this art of being thoughtful, you will become more and more Christ-like, for his heart was meek, and he always thought of others.  Thoughtfulness is the beginning of great sanctity.  Our vocation to be beautiful must be full of thoughts for others  -Mother Theresa

Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.  Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.  (Philippians 2:4-8MSG)
